What is direct seeding? (video)
Toninho is Marcio’s uncle, an ecologist putting together projects for the people of his home state Minas Gerais.
He devised and organised a project to take this revolutionary technique to the people of Quilombo Baixa Funda, a community 900km from where he lives and literally off the map. Next year we plan to replicate our four hectare pilot in four other states, and Toninho will be running the show as it scales.
In this video series, Toninho describes the biome, the technique and the community where the project is being undertaken.
Direct seeding
Sowing seeds on the ground just before the rainy season is vastly cheaper than other methods of ecosystem restoration. A hectare can be restored for less than £1000 - 10p per square meter!
Simple and scalable, it can bring benefits to local communities and hope for our global weather systems.
