Urban agroecology into nine communities

Going beyond targets

Our partners in northeast Brazil ran a fundraising campaign to expand their work from one favela into nine. Not only did they meet their target - they smashed it. We have reliable information that there was shouting for joy in Recife.

The video ‘Agroecology in the City’ follows the story from the first project to the suite of educational materials and a demonstration hub with a black woman’s group in Recife.

The next step is to expand into other communities.

Special thanks to all of those who donated and made it happen.

Message from project leader Mariana

Thank you, RAIN, for your special support!

With your support, we managed to hit the goal and even surpass it with a collective effort.

Our work is just beginning! We are now going to gather material resources which some supporters are willing to dedicate to these nine communities, as well as make a participatory execution plan of this work. Also we will decide together what will be the destination of the extra resources provided, with some examples of actions, such as:

- Carry out audiovisual coverage of the project implementation and release this story in Portuguese and English;

- Improve the remuneration of the technicians who will implement the kits in the communities in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic;

- Purchase hygiene and health protection materials;

- Other actions to be defined collectively.

We are open for your ideas and suggestions, as we truly recognise your importance to our success on this project! Let's keep on working together, hearts united to make 2021 a year of agroecology.

Thank you,
Rede Pela Transição and the nine communities in Recife.
