Indigenous reforestation project funded!
We have part-funded our project with the Kaingang nation, to plant their sacred tree in order to regenerated their ancestral lands. The project will start with a road trip to collect a range of seeds, that will be planted in the new nursery.
A Decade of Ecosystem Restoration
The United Nations decade of ecological restoration has just begun! This is timely, given the publication of the IPBES report in 2019 which found that ecological degradation and rates of species extinctions are accelerating all over the world.
One of the most powerful means of reversing the trend is ecosystem restoration
Artists reforesting Brazil
A group of artists have kindly donated artworks to raise money for reforestation initiatives in Brazil. In just a few weeks we have raised over £2000!
All our projects are community-led and support biodiversity, soil health and food security - helping all of the creatures on the land, from the microbiota in the soil to the humans treading carefully upon it.
Trees of music
As musicians have known for centuries, the best wood for violin bows comes from the pau-brasil tree, the tree that Brazil is named after. It has the perfect strength, flexibility and resonance, and nothing else sounds quite right.
But the trees are endangered following centuries of deforestation.
Reforesting with the Kaingang indigenous nation
The project proposed is to build two large nurseries, employing four full-time workers and producing around 100,000 trees each per year.
Many of these trees will be given to other tribes and communities, with the intention that they too will begin to regenerate their lands and recover ancestral modes of living in harmony with the earth.
The first two nurseries can be built and staffed for £3000 each, clearing the way for more projects in the future.
Education and Agroecology in the Brazilian northeast
Bringing together culture, community and ecological education, RAIN’s collaboration with Pe da Vida in the Northeast of Brazil weaves together indigenous knowledge and scientific awareness surrounding sustainable agriculture. This education initiative aims to revive traditional approaches to farming by inspiring urban students to draw connections between their land, water, resources and food.
